Psalm 37:7 - Wait! He Will Answer

Step 1: Pray. Select.

As I sit down to pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal the scripture he would like to discuss with me today, I feel the need to give thanks to God for always working behind the scenes and setting up relationships, circumstances, or opportunities while I continue to keep my eyes focused on Him and his daily bread he assigns.

As I researched relevant scriptures about God’s plans and setups for your future ahead, I came across Psalm 37:7.

Let’s begin our journey there today, friends.

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

Psalm 37:7 - Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words I circled that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive in my heart.

  • Jennifer, rest, wait patiently, do not fret, who prospers in his way.

If you are doing this alongside me today, add your name in front of your unique sentence so the Lord can speak directly to you.

Step 4: Visualize

As I close my eyes and meditate on the words the Holy Spirit has expressed for today, I picture standing at a fork in the road.

I have been traveling for quite some time and am dirty, thirsty, and hungry. I stop and stand on the edge of deciding which way to travel. Do I go left or right?

I squint my eyes to attempt to see some semblance of life or safety on either path. I take the time to thoroughly examine both routes. Out of nowhere, a man in a dark designer suit walks up next to me. Where did he come from? I haven’t seen anyone for miles, and the land has been a complete barren wasteland up to this point, with little to no life in every direction as far as the eye can see.

As I discreetly look him up and down out of my peripheral vision, I notice he is freshly showered and shaved. I can still smell the fragrance from the product he used as an aftershave. It is almost as if he has been teleported to this very spot where I am, in the middle of nowhere. It feels like he arrived from another dimension.

He seems utterly unaffected by the elements of the wasteland or our environment. He pays no attention to me. It is almost like there is an invisible wall between us, and we exist in the same space but in two different dimensional planes.

He looks down at his watch as if he is going to be late and starts to walk briskly toward the left side of the forked path. I stand there thinking, is there something he knows that I don’t?

As far as I can see by his appearance, he is clearly rich and successful. So maybe I should go left like him? Just then, something occurs to me. I haven’t asked God which way to go. I also have not heard his voice telling me what direction to travel.

As the man continues walking rapidly down the left path towards his destination, I can now see a city sprouting up along the sides of his path as he works his way towards it. I start to see plants grow out of what appears to be thin air, and I even hear the bustling sounds of the concrete jungle. Where he is going is clearly populated, and I will have all the resources I need.

I glance to my right, and nothing has been revealed. The right path is as desolate as when I arrived.

I hear the Holy Spirit warn me, “Wait. Be Still. Don’t move. Those who wait on the LORD, he will renew their strength.”

I decided to get down on my knees, bow my head down right there in my path, and pray. I know I am not supposed to move until I hear his voice, but I am growing desperate, so I decided to cry out to Him. “Where are you, God?! Tell me which way to go!”

As I scream at the top of my lungs, I feel the Earth shake. I hear a rumbling coming from under the ground beneath me. I looked up, and the glamorous, mysterious city that rose up as the man entered on the path to the left began to shake and crumble until it was completely rubble. The Earth continued to shake more violently now, almost to the point where I was concerned about it cracking beneath where I kneeled. I held tight to keep my balance and position, and finally, the Earth began to subside. The shaking finally came to a stop almost as quickly as it started.

I looked up, and the road that veered to the left was now completely gone. It had been swallowed up into a crevice that formed in the Earth during the shaking. I turned to my right towards the remaining path, and in the far distance, I saw a bright light in what appeared to be the shape of an angelic being. The angelic figure waved to me to come towards it.

I stand there still, a bit in shock. I can’t believe the bullet I just dodged. If I had not kneeled down to cry out to God for answers on which way to travel, I may have followed the man to utter destruction. I would have been swallowed up by the Earth. I stand up, still unsure if I am on safe ground. The angel continues to call me to come towards it.

I start to walk in the angel’s direction, and it turns into a dove. The dove begins to fly further down the path until it is out of sight.

The Holy Spirit wants me to know that if I wait on the LORD, he will tear down Babylon or any place that falsely promises a good life, tempting me with shiny objects but is really just a facade. He wants to make sure he keeps me safe and sturdy on the path of the straight and narrow.

I still don’t know where the path I am on will lead. But right now, the path to the right is the only path. I know one thing is for sure: if God created it and the Holy Spirit dwells within it, then my eternal destination is secure, which is more than anything this world could ever offer and enough for me.

A question arises, so I move to Step 5.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The requests/questions that came to mind are:

  • Holy Spirit, why did you fly away out of sight as I moved towards you on the path?

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“I didn’t. I dwell within you. At that moment, you needed to know I was ahead of you and that you could trust what I told you. I needed to go before you to show you it was safe. There will be many forks, or tough decisions, ahead. Do as you did today. Be still and know God is still on the throne. He has the power to destroy the paths of the enemy. There is no choice but to choose him every time. If you are not sure, ask and wait. But whatever you do, don’t move until you are clear. God is not a God of confusion. Remember Matthew 6:33 - But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus.

I ask today, and in all days to come, you give me the patience to always wait upon you for your confirmation of steps as I walk my life out. Help me stay strong and not be swayed by what the world thinks or gravitate towards shiny objects of temporary satisfaction. Let me move towards you in every situation, focused on the eternal rewards this world cannot compete with or offer. Let me wait on the voice and presence of the Holy Spirit for every move.

I humbly serve you and seal this prayer with the blood of Jesus - Amen!

Conclusion:

Friends, when you come to a fork in the road, get on your knees and stay there until he gives you a clear direction.

Trust that whatever path He tells you is better than the one that will crumble, built off temporary things of this world.

Stand firm in knowing the Holy Spirit can and will always guide you toward the LORD.

Finally, know when God is still, you should be as well. Wait upon him, for he will go ahead and keep you safe.

God bless you. See you soon!
