Hebrews 4:12 - His Word Is Alive

Step 1: Pray. Select.

This morning, as I began to pray over which scripture to converse with the Holy Spirit about, I was immediately pulled into seeking scripture on the power of God’s word and how it is alive.

I came across Hebrews 4:12, which perfectly encapsulated my thoughts at the time.

Let’s begin our journey there today, friends.

Step 2: Write. Read. Circle

After reading the scripture three times, the following words stood out amongst the others:

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Step 3: Re-Write

With a focus on the words I circled that stood out, here is the personalized sentence that came alive in my heart.

  • Jennifer, the word, is living, a discerner of thoughts and intents.

If you are doing this alongside me today, add your name in front of your unique sentence so the Lord can speak directly to you.

Step 4: Visualize

As I close my eyes to meditate on this sentence for today, I picture myself on my knees praying.

I am all alone in an intimate, dark room. As I pray on my knees, the enemy starts to make foreign noises all around me to distract me from my prayer time. Every once in a while, I open my eyes to discern where the noises are coming from, but nothing is there.

I keep losing my place or forgetting where I left off in my prayer time. I find myself getting frustrated and distracted, which is actually what the enemy wants. I try to focus more intensely, but the harder I try, the more difficult it becomes.

All of a sudden, a mighty wind comes rushing into the room, and I feel Jesus' presence with me. The power of his presence wipes away all thoughts and emotions of frustration, confusion, and angst. It is as if my Father walked into the room and said to the menacing spirits around me, Not my child. Not today, Satan!

Now, there is no comparison on where I should focus or what to pay attention to. The Lord is in the room! He muffles everything in comparison to Him, and as I feel peace rushing over me, I realize all I needed was to seek Him, and He would drown out the noises because now all I can focus on is Him.

He whispers softly in my ear, "I am here."

I feel so protected, seen, and empowered to continue speaking to Him now without any further distractions. He has cleared the room. The words "I am here" make me feel important and seen by Him. I realize how much I am loved.

I have a question for the Holy Spirit, so I move to Step 5.

Step 5: Ask. Seek

The requests/questions that came to mind are:

  • Holy Spirit, why in my vision was I alone in a dark room?

Step 6: Hear. Write. Receive

Here is the answer I received:

“When you are alone, this is the time when the enemy can twist your intentions. This is what I mean when I say the word is alive, and it is a discerner of thoughts and intents. The enemy tries to grow things in your mind, which then seeps poison into your heart, making you focus on the flesh over the power of the spirit. He can't get to you any other way but through hurting your flesh. The moment you are protected by my words sinking in as you read and exhaling them as you speak, the more you change from the inside while killing everything that is not of me in the atmosphere around you on the outside. I have given you the sword, so pick it up and use it. Stop trying to fight without the weapon which I have placed in your hand to wield. You're never alone. My word is with you, and therefore, I am with you. You are never alone. I will always be there by your side. I just needed you to turn the light on in which I spoke upon creation. As I said, let there be light, and I saw the light and the light was good. I divided the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:3-4) when you speak my word. My light flows through you, and it is good. I am with you, and you are with me.”

Step 7: Pray. Confirm

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus.

Thank you for showing me that your word is the light, that it can cut through any noise, any distraction, anything that is keeping me from you. Help me realize that you are all powerful all the time, that you are always in the room with me, and I'm never alone.

Let me turn on the light so that the darkness must flee. Help me remain strong and courageous and completely engulfed in your word at all times, in every situation.

In Jesus' holy name, I pray. Amen.

Conclusion:

Friends, if you feel alone in your prayer time, distracted or confused, remember to go to His Word. It is alive. It will cut through the noise and all things keeping you from hearing your Father's voice.

Remember these words, "I am here." If we seek Him, He will show up, and He will speak to us. For His sheep know His voice, and His voice will quell any thoughts of the enemy.

Focus on the power of the Holy Spirit, the mighty rushing wind clearing the way for your Father to come through; that alone will drown out the darkness and the feeble attempts of the enemy to separate you from your Father.

God bless you. See you soon.
